Albert Bandura's Bobo Doll Studies & Their Implications

Albert Bandura's Bobo doll studies involved him showing a video to children of a model beating up a Bobo doll. In the videos the model was either rewarder, punished, or nothing happened after she beat the dolls up. After watching the video he would put the children alone in the room with the doll to see how they behaved. The children who had viewed the video where the model was punished were the least likely to engage in the modeled behavior. The children who had viewed the videos where reward or nothing occurred were both likely to engage in the behavior. This immplied that learning occurs by observing as well as through conditioning. The example in the book showcased this because Micheal was able to model his behavior after Crystal and learn to be a good employee. One way that I apply these principles of learning is with my little brothers. When I want them to do something I show them what I want to do and they end up modeling my behavior. When my little brother was one I got a puppy, and he was very rough with her. He would pull her ears and poke her eyes. I would then take the puppy from him and pet her nicely and tell him she was just a baby so he had to be nice and pet her softly. Seeing me be gentle with her helped him to be gentle with her. My little brother now treats all babies this way whether animal or human he will go up to a baby and pet it softly and say baby. Consequently because he was never punished for treating the puppy roughly, my dog now allows young children to pull her ears and poke her in the eyes without getting mad. She also learned to be gentle with children.

Re:

This is a very good summary and discussion of the material in your text book. Did you watch the video and if so how could you integrate what you learned from the video into this post as well.

Your example of modeling the behavior with your younger brother and how this learned gentleness generalized to other situations as well.

How long after a behavior has been learned through observational learning does the subject show that they have learned? Is it immediate, within a short period or after an extended period of time?
